Eye Society fundraiser

East Cheshire Eye Society held a special fundraising event recently, in support of its important work enabling local residents with sight loss to live better and more independent lives.

The well-attended event at Macclesfield’s Tytherington Club was hosted by former England and Burnley footballer, Paul Fletcher MBE, with special guest speaker Alastair Campbell. The journalist, broadcaster and former Number 10 Director of Communications entertained the audience with a wealth of anecdotes and insights from his time at the heart of government, and his subsequent work, including his campaigns on mental health. Among other notable guests were local Paralympic gold medal winners Lora Fachie MBE, Neil Fachie MBE, and Sophie Thornhill MBE, as well as former England, Burnley and Queens Park Rangers footballer, Dave Thomas, all of whom have campaigned on issues relating to visual impairments.

The fundraising evening culminated with a charity raffle, with a number of exciting prizes on offer for attendees to bid on. Thanks to the generosity of guests, the Society was able to raise a total of £5,000, which will help to make a vital contribution in supporting its wide-ranging work with people with sight loss in communities in Cheshire East, and those who are affected by it. The Society has carried out this important function locally for over 140 years, having been formed in 1875.

Any local residents that are interested in supporting East Cheshire Eye Society can contact it by telephone on 01625 422602, to express their interest and find out more. Sponsorships and corporate packages are also available to local businesses.
