Homes to be built on Bollington flood plain

It beggars belief to learn that Cheshire East planners have approved the construction of new homes on the flood plain off Albert Road in Bollington.

Despite many objections regarding the undesirability of the project which lies adjacent to the household waste recycling centre – and the River Dean – Hillcrest Homes has gained planning consent and work on the 24 homes is due to start later this year.

The greenfield plot had been allocated for employment purposes since the 1990s, but no scheme has ever been brought forward. A site opposite was granted planning permission for 33 homes in 2015.

Hillcrest is proposing to build 12 detached homes and a mix of terraces and semi-detached houses; 10 of these are allocated as affordable. The sizes range from four bedrooms to two bedrooms.

It will be interesting to see if and at what cost the new owners are able to secure home insurance – particularly as insurance companies are very reluctant to insure properties near water.
