Appeal for witnesses to fatal Poynton collision

Cheshire Police are appealing for witnesses after a man died following a collision in Poynton town centre around 7 pm on Sunday 27 October when a gold-coloured Mercedes Benz collided with a pedestrian on London Road North, near to the junction of Woodside Lane. 

The pedestrian, 73-year-old Brian Greenwood, sustained serious injuries and was taken to Stepping Hill Hospital. Sadly, despite the best effort of all those involved, he passed away a short time later.

His family said: “Brian was a loving husband to Janet, Dad to Chris and Claire, Father-in-law to Richie and Jill, Granddad to Oliver and Lucie, Brother to Marilyn and Brother-in-Law to Kath, Phil and Ian.  He was 73-year-old and a fit and active member of the local Poynton community.”

“We would like to thank the emergency services and members of the public for their help during this incident and ask for our privacy to be respected at this difficult time.”

Sergeant Nick Rogers, of Cheshire Constabulary’s Serious and Complex Collision Investigation Unit, said: “Enquiries in relation to this collision are ongoing and we are keen to hear from anyone who witnessed the collision or has any information which may aid our investigation. The same goes for anyone who believes they have dashcam footage that may be relevant to the investigation.”
