Father Christmas is to pay a very rare visit to Little Moreton Hall.
He has only called at the ancient timber-framed building on a handful of occasions. But he will be dropping in on two weekends this December.
Kate Picker, from the hall, explained, “Although Little Moreton Hall has been here for 500 years, the only times we really know that Father Christmas came were during the past decade or so, when he visited children living in the hall’s National Trust staff flat.
Eighteen months ago we opened the flat, in the East Wing, for visitors to explore. So we felt it would be a great idea to invite Father Christmas along this year to meet all the children in what was, until recently, a family home.
Father Christmas will be at the hall on two Saturdays and Sundays when Little Moreton Hall’s usual Yuletide celebrations will also be taking place.
Children will enjoy half an hour of storytelling, games and activities, have a chat with Father Christmas and receive a gift.
The Yuletide event at weekends will feature Tudor food displays and decorations, live renaissance music or choirs, storytelling and jesters. Fridays will be quieter but visitors will be able to see the hall decorated for Yuletide and sample some Tudor party food.
On all days delicious seasonal treats will be served in the tearooms, including roast turkey sandwiches, chocolate yule log, Christmas cake and mince pies. The gift shop will also be open so that you can buy some extra decorations for the tree or some Christmas food and drink to take home.
Father Christmas is at Little Moreton Hall on Saturday 30 November and Sunday, 1 December and again on Saturday 7 December and Sunday 8 December, between 11.30 am and 4pm. Pre-booking is essential. There is a charge of £10 per child, which includes entry to the hall. Usual entry fees apply for other members of the family.
See the Little Moreton Hall website for full details and call 0344 249 1895 for booking details.
