Macclesfield’s makers and creators go virtual

This Sunday 29th March, Macclesfield’s famous Treacle Market will be coming to your living rooms as the founders have transformed the monthly market into a virtual marketplace.

Organised by Treacle market founder Jane Munro and stall holder Leigh Jennings, the virtual market will take place between 11am – 2pm, via the Treacle Market Facebook page where Treacle stall holders will be selling a selection of their wares online. From antiques to crafts, hand made to collected, the market’s organisers will share photos and details of items for sale, along with postage costs for people to peruse from the comfort of their sofa.

The virtual marketplace will also share stall holders’ websites and social media alongside their promoted item for sale, as well as videos of music from Treacle, and your favourite photos. There will also be a competition giveaway running on the Facebook page.

Jane Munro, founder of Treacle Market, said: “We respect that the potential sale of just one item won’t cover rent/mortgage/bills during this worrying time for our independent makers, but we hope that this encourages the community of Macclesfield to show support, shop online, and remember Treacle Market for the community it supports and share the love with Treacle’s wonderful stall holders.”

Treacle Market visitors can register their attendance via the Facebook page and will be notified when the stalls are open for business.

As well as the virtual market, Macclesfield Museums has started #MaccMuseumsFromHome – a series of boredom-busting activities for all ages inspired by the Macclesfield Museums Collections. All of the activities are designed for you to do from home using materials that you can find around the house.

Macclesfield cartoonist, Marc Jackson, has started online lessons and workshops on his Youtube channel for any budding artists wanting to try their hand at drawing.

Jane added: “The town of Macclesfield has always been a supportive one, and now more than ever we’re seeing inspiring examples of community spirit and initiatives for people to work together and navigate these challenging times. There’s a bright future ahead for the town as the Council’s regeneration continues and I’m certain we’ll come out of this as an even stronger community.”
