Lockdown Larder – a tiny Treacle

Treacle Market has always been mindful of bringing groups of people together during the Corona Pandemic and were quick to cancel it’s markets this year as the national and local picture changed.

Food markets were given the green light to trade through the first lock down and have been encouraged to do so again as they provide an important food resource in an open air environment.

Food traders will be able to continue and we know what a vitally important role they played in the last national lockdown.” Govt statement re Lock Down 2.

From Saturday 14th  until Saturday 28th November, Marketplace in Macclesfield will host a tiny  Treacle Market of 25 stalls- a ‘Lock Down Larder’ with small independent makers and producers selling food and drink only. A place to source very good vegetables, cheese, bread, cakes, preserves and more whilst also supporting the local shops who are open or doing click and collect or takeaways. There will be someone selling excellent street food each time to ensure a very good lunch to takeaway or something to heat up at home for Saturday night.

‘This is an opportunity for locals to do their food shopping at a much smaller market of only 25 stalls and not the usual sociable Treacle event pulling visitors from further away’ stressed Jane Munro the market organiser.

‘It is a tiny Treacle for local people to shop for quality food in an environment that may feel more comfortable than the supermarket at the current time. A place to treat yourself as well as get the basics perhaps. There will be no alcohol for sale. Importantly it is also a trading opportunity for small producers and makers whose businesses have been hit so hard by Covid and are desperate for an opportunity to trade’ she adds.

Shoppers are asked to wear a mask whilst attending the market and to maintain the 2m social distancing rule whilst queuing and moving round the market. There will be hand sanitisers to use throughout.

Treacle Market shoppers can seek out their favourite non food stalls who will not be on the streets this time via the new Treacle Directory on the Treacle website and shop directly with them. https://www.treaclemarket.co.uk/contact-stall-holders
