RHS Tatton Park opens next week

RHS Flower Show Tatton Park opens its gates next week.

The show will be bringing inspiration for grow-your-own and planet-friendly gardening, alongside hands-on family activities, all from the beautiful surroundings of Tatton’s thousand-acre deer park.

With so much to see and do, here are the top highlights to look forward to from 20-24 July.

Greener gardening for all

With summer temperatures soaring, discover sustainable solutions to try in your own garden.

New for 2022, the Greener Front Gardens are packed with ideas for turning front gardens into planet friendly spaces, including ‘The Cotton Traders Greener Future Garden’ by Lynn Cordall which shows how the right planting and design can turn a front garden into a wildlife haven and help reduce flooding risk.

The Pocket Planting feature promotes using the right plants in the right place with inspiration for common soil types and conditions found throughout the North West, whilst the RHS and BBC local radio planet-friendly gardens are full of ideas from water conservation to meadow planting.

Get into grow-your-own

Discover how to grow your own food with the ‘BBC Radio 2 and The One Show’s Sow, Grow and Show Garden’.

The feature garden, designed by Gardeners’ World presenter Joe Swift, includes beds for vegetables and cut flowers along with a display area where harvested crops can be displayed.

See the best of the North-West in the Summer Fruit and Veg Competition with over 70 classes including the heaviest gooseberry competition.

Then learn how to turn your produce into delicious dishes at Taste of Tatton, with talks and demonstrations led by chef Mark Diacono.

Family fun at Homestead

Get stuck into horticultural and botanical inspired craft for all the family in the new Homestead area.

Join in with demonstrations to learn about soil and listen to Lia Leendertz discuss the world of nocturnal insects. Perfect for little hands, have a go at seed sowing and try your own up-cycling project for the garden.

Also in the area, schools from across the region will be bringing their own allotments to show off what they’ve been growing in their playgrounds.

Expert tips & talks

Get gardening and floral know-how from a wide range of experts, see mouth-watering demos from culinary pros, and take part in hands-on workshops.

Hear from the ‘Twitter king of big veg’ Gerald Stratford, be inspired by broadcaster Arit Anderson and see the Mancunian winner of BBC Two’s Great British Menu, Adam Reid, cook up a storm.

Explore a world of florals

Surround yourself in beautiful blooms and shop from some of the UK’s finest growers at the Plant Village and Floral Marquee.

Immerse yourself in a floral forest at the Flower School where expert florists will also be showing how you can create your own fabulous displays at home.
