Basuto is the last-of-its-kind vessel.
A proud symbol of Britain’s shared industrial heritage is in critical condition and without immediate intervention, this treasure could be lost forever.
Basuto played a vital role in both world wars and is now the oldest of only three surviving Clyde Puffers in the world.
However, time and the elements have taken a devastating toll on Basuto. Currently sitting in the lower basin at the National Waterways Museum in Ellesmere Port, this iconic vessel is heavily listing and must be continuously pumped to stay afloat. Without immediate action she risks sinking completely.
Some funding has been secured from the National Heritage Memorial Fund and an urgent Crowdfunder has been launched to raise the remaining funds needed to save Basuto. Your donation will fund the lifting of Basuto out of the water to begin essential conservation work.
Here’s just some of the ways your donation could help:
- £50 could help clear out Basuto’s hull
- £100 could fund specialist paints
- £250 could go towards helping lift Basuto out of the water
