    Macclesfield Eco Summit

    10 am to 4 pmZoom

Macclesfield Town Council and local group Macctastic announce on-line Eco Summit will take place on 15th May 2021.

Local eco network group Macctastic which was formed following an event at the Barnaby Treacle Market event in June 2018, has been working closely with Macclesfield Town Council to bring and engaging Eco Summit to the people of the town. The summit will be a full day event 10-4pm on the 15th May with comfort breaks and a break for lunch and due to pandemic restrictions will take place over Zoom.

Consultation work in January saw those local to Macclesfield answering three key questions, which have helped to shape the summit, the talks that will take place and the people presenting them.

The talks include Building Back Macc, which focuses on climate change, low carbon travel, green spaces, resources and people.

Active Travel, which talks about the benefits/obstacles and the vision of an sustainable transport system in Macclesfield.

Cooler, Greener Macc, which will include a TEDx video on green spaces, wildlife, community cohesion and pollution control.

Eco Groups and Information Hubs, including active groups in the local areas, education and involvement.

Green Shoots in Macclesfield an informal Q&A session with a few local business owners who are committed to going (and staying) green.

Community & Council: The Environmental Call for Action, focusing on council leadership from both Macclesfield Town Council and Cheshire East Council and what they can do to support local people/groups

A Macclesfield Town Council spokesperson said “We are very excited about the summit.  The Town Council declared a climate emergency in June 2019, which means we have an ongoing commitment to consider environmental impact, both positive and negative in all decisions the council takes.  We are excited to see the people of the town come together for the summit and hope that there will be some great ideas that be taken forward which will improve the environmental sustainability of Macclesfield.”
