LOCAL MP LEADS DEBATE ON FIRST-TIME EMPLOYER SUPPORT

David Rutley, the Conservative MP for Macclesfield led a debate on support for first-time employers on 1 November 2013.

Mr Rutley began by explaining that he would focus on how to increase the number of people setting up a business.
He said there was a need for more “first time entrepreneurs”

Responding, Business, Innovation and Skills Minister David Willetts said the government is “working hard to make life easier for people employing people for the first time.”

Mr Willetts referred to an online tool which explains what steps employers must take when employing people for the first time including how much an employee should be paid and whether a candidate has the right to work in the UK.

Employers must also have liability insurance; provide details of the job in a written statement of employment within one month and inform HM Revenue and Customs.
