Macclesfield-Congleton road closed following crash

The A536 Macclesfield to Congleton Road has been closed at Gawsworth after a ‘serious’ crash between a truck and a car.

Police and paramedics were dispatched to the incident which took place at around 6.15am.

One person is understood to have sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital for treatment.

The road will remain closed while resurfacing works are completed on the carriageway.

Cheshire East Council Highways Department, who assisted at the scene, have warned motorists to avoid the area while the incident is dealt with.

A spokesman said: “The A536 Macclesfield Road is closed between Congleton and Macclesfield due to a serious road traffic collision.

“Our incident response team are working with Cheshire Police at the scene. Please avoid the area.”
