DOES BOLLINGTON HAVE A FLAG FAIRY?

Does anyone know what`s happening to Bollington`s flagstones?

For as long as I can remember the pavements in the town have been replete with lovely old stone flag pavements.

Several years ago a whole stretch of pavement on Wellington Road was lifted and replaced with tarmac.

I`m told this was around the time that Prestbury`s streets were being re-paved in stone, but am unsure if Bollington`s flags had migrated there.

Last Friday, at 4.45 pm, a team from Cheshire East turned up outside Brassington`s cafe and Heathcote`s butchers on Wellington Road.

On learning of their intention to replace several broken flagstones Chris Heathcote seized the opportunity to photograph the pavement before he shut up shop for the day.

You can imagine his surprise on opening up the following morning to see tarmac patches where before stone flags had lain. He was even more surprised on checking his photographic record to discover that the Council`s workers had actually substituted tarmac for several `healthy` flags. The several damaged flags hadn`t been touched.

He tells us that something similar has happened at the top end of the town, outside their other shop and wonders if Bollington now has a flag fairy?

We can only conclude that either Prestbury needs some pavement repairs or could it be that a town councillor is having their garden footpaths relaid?

If anyone knows what`s happened to the flagstones can you let us and the Heathcotes know.
