Cheshire East are backing a national campaign to promote small businesses by providing free parking on Saturday.

Cheshire East, along with Cheshire West and Chester, Cumbria, Lancashire, Oldham, Pendle, Rossendale and Sefton are among 40 councils which have heeded a call from pressure group Forum of Private Business to offer free parking.

The FPB wrote to every local council in the country earlier this year to ask them to support small businesses by waiving parking charges.

Phil Orford, chief executive of the Knutsford-based organisation said: “We want to see as many people as possible in local independent businesses on 7th December and believe the free parking offers will encourage people to think small and shop locally.
