A new Disney movie – Evermoor – is set to bring Cheshire landmarks to the world stage.

Location shooting is currently taking place at Arley Hall, near Knutsford and Gawsworth village.

The Disney multi-part movie series, which will be on screens this autumn, will follow an American family who inherit an English country house. As their teen daughter, Tara Crossley, explores the local surroundings she becomes aware of some supernatural goings on.

Viscount Ashbrook’s Arley Hall will double for the grand family home. Built in 1469, the historic manor house, with its elaborate ceilings, oak panelling, stained glass and original fireplaces, is the perfect place to evoke mysterious happenings. It’s also open for visitors, so fans of the show can walk in the footsteps of Crossley in the series.

“We will take full advantage of the fact it is a series set in a British village, with an incredible British backdrop and location at the heart of the story,” explained David Levine, vice president of programming, production and strategic development for Disney Channels in Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Hollyoaks’ production company Lime Pictures will also be behind the project. Head of drama at Lime Pictures, Rebecca Hodgson, explained that they wanted Evermoor to have “British and American sensibility”, plus “a dialogue polish to make sure we get certain words right”.

A few British actors have been added to the mix to keep it authentic, including Inbetweeners actress Belinda Stewart-Wilson, who will be playing the mum in the new drama. Meanwhile, budding actor Finney Cassidy, from Manchester, will play local oddball turned love interest Cameron – who works at the local village store in the series.

Evermoor will be shown as a four-part series in the UK, but will be a full-length movie in other countries.
