Open meeting tonight to discuss town centre problems

Don’t forget tonight’s public meeting to discuss the problems to be faced following the apparent demise of the Town Centre Redevelopment scheme.

This is taking place at 7.30-9.00pm (Thursday 26th March) in St Michael’s Church in the Market Place.

Representatives from the Make it Macclesfield Forum and Cheshire East Council will be attending.

Local MP David Rutley will also be present.

The meeting will provide a chance for those who attend to hear more about future opportunities for the town centre and to have their say on regeneration plans in the light of Debenham’s abandonment of the scheme and the probable demise of the Town Centre Redevelopment Scheme.

Following our item in February on Debenhams pulling out – effectively killing off the scheme – for the many people who emailed ilovemacc asking for details of which councillors supported and which ones opposed the appalling and totally discredited scheme:

Voting for the scheme were:

David Neilson, Macclesfield East

plus out-of-town councillors:

Rachel Bailey, Audlem

Phil Hoyland,  Poynton West and Adlington

David Marren,  Haslington

Peter Mason, Congleton East

George Walton, Chelford

Steve Wilkinson, High Legh

John Wray, Brereton Rural

Voting against the scheme were:

Louise Brown, Broken Cross and Upton

Janet Jackson, Macclesfield Central

Brendan Murphy, Macclesfield Tytherington

Macclesfield Central Councillor Ken Edwards and Make it Macclesfield Forum chair Clare Hayward made lengthy statements at the beginning of the planning meeting – both strongly supporting the application and urging the planning committee to approve the scheme.
