Man sought following knife incident in pub

Police have issued an e-fit in connection with an incident at a pub in Macclesfield.

At approximately 6.45pm on 12th January a man entered The Park Tavern in Park Lane. He ordered a drink and sat in the bar area by himself.

During the evening the man was seen acting in an odd manner and was asked to leave the premises – at which point he pulled out a knife and threatened a customer before fleeing the scene at around 8.30pm. No-one was injured as a result of the incident.

The man is described as white, around 5’ 9” tall, aged in his late 30s, with short black hair, a dark coloured beard and a slim face. He was wearing a black waist length jacket with a grey jumper underneath, blue jeans and trainers.

An investigation has been launched and police have been carrying out a number of enquiries in the local area.

This week officers issued an e-fit of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.

Detective Sergeant Simon Mills said: “We are appealing for anyone who has any information in relation to the incident – or the identity of the man – to come forward – in particular anyone who may have been inside the pub at the time of the incident and has not yet spoken to police.

“During the evening eye witnesses also described seeing what they thought were a number of AA batteries in a plastic case around the waist of the man. The witnesses were not concerned about this – it was only when the knife was pulled out that they felt threatened. But clearly this is unusual behaviour and people may have seen him earlier in the night and remember him and we would urge them to come forward. Even the smallest amount of information can be useful when piecing together a case.”

Anyone with any information, which might assist officers with their enquiries, is urged to call Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 835 of 12th January.

Information can also be left anonymously, via Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.
