Boobee cancer campaign creates a buzz

Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, recently attended a fundraising coffee morning in support of the BooBee campaign, which aims to raise awareness of the symptoms of breast cancer and encourage regular self-checking.

The coffee morning was kindly hosted by local resident, Heather Glover, who herself is currently receiving treatment for breast cancer. David was pleased to speak more with Heather and other ‘Bees’ from the charity, to learn more about their experiences and the much-valued support that BooBee has offered them. They also highlighted the importance of regular self-checking for the signs of breast cancer, which can be a vital way to detect any issues as early as possible, leading to swifter diagnosis and improving patient outcomes.

A total of £1,400 was raised on the day, which will all go directly towards supporting the work of Prevent Breast Cancer. The Manchester-based charity, which is located at The Nightingale Centre, Wythenshawe Hospital, is conducting ground-breaking research to help make breast cancer a disease of the past.

BooBee was founded in March as an exciting and innovative awareness campaign by Prestbury resident, Margo Cornish, with the aim of educating women about breast cancer risks, and helping to protect future generations from breast cancer. The campaign is working to gather the stories and experiences of residents in the north west who are affected by breast cancer and promoting them more widely. Speaking after his visit, David said, “Whilst positive progress is being made to improve breast cancer diagnosis and treatment, there is much more to be done. BooBee is a great campaign that promotes greater awareness of the signs of breast cancer, and helps protect more women from it in the future. It was moving and inspiring to hear directly from Heather Glover and other women who have benefitted from the support from BooBee, and I wish all involved with the charity every success going forward.”
