Adlington Cricket Club’s Liz scoops June’s AO award

Lancashire Cricket Club has announced the first winner of the 2019 Volunteer Recognition Programme – which is run in partnership with AO.com

The winner of the June award is Liz Chamberlain from Adlington Cricket Club, who has become the heartbeat of the Club after 36 years of being involved. During that time, Liz has fulfilled a large number of roles since starting as treasurer and helping to rebuild the Club’s finances.

She now plays a major role in providing opportunities for local kids to play cricket, leading on the Club’s ongoing ECB Clubmark Accreditation and filling the position of Club Welfare Officer.

Adlington have also recently become an All Stars Cricket Centre and Liz has spent time voluntarily promoting the junior section within local schools.

An active fundraiser, Liz also gets hands-on in a wide range of ways. When she is not fixing or improving existing facilities, the star volunteer can be found volunteering behind the bar or making the teas on a matchday. Her love of the Club is a shared passion with husband, Nick, who also volunteers in a number of roles at the Club, making it a true family affair.

Upon receiving the award, Liz Chamberlain said: ““I’m shocked, and delighted, to have been nominated and could not believe it. I’d like to say a big thank you to Lancashire Cricket and to AO.

“The Volunteer of the Month programme is a fantastic initiative as volunteers generally do not get recognised for their hard work and efforts. Recreational cricket up and down the country simply wouldn’t run it wasn’t for people giving up their time.”

The Volunteer Recognition Programme affirms AO.com’s involvement and commitment to recreational and grassroots cricket in the North West, with Lancashire players awarding winners at their clubs.

Online electrical store AO.com, has been a partner of Lancashire Cricket since 2015. This includes exclusive naming rights of the hugely popular Family and Community Stand at Emirates Old Trafford, as well as sponsoring the Lancashire Cricket Age Group and Medical Team kit.
