Scouts Are #Goodforyou

The Scouts’ #Goodforyou campaign is designed to recruit new volunteers to help young people reconnect with their peers, support their wellbeing and build skills for life as they emerge from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic.

Local MP, David Rutley, gave his support to the campaign at a meeting with David Giles, District Commissioner for Macclesfield and Congleton Scouts, and his Deputy, Ian Mackintosh where they explained how the national initiative will help recruit much-needed local volunteers and also show potential volunteers how giving time to Scouts is not only good for the young people involved, but also good for the volunteers too – supporting their own skills, health and happiness, family and community.

The District’s team is working hard to develop a programme of high-profile #Goodforyou events and a communication plan to help potential volunteers find out more about how they can make a positive difference in the lives of local young people, at a time when they need it the most. David will be participating in these events and is backing the Scouts’ key message: that volunteering is good for communities, good for young people and good for you.

With over 1500 members and over 20 groups in the Macclesfield and Congleton District, local Scouts make such a big contribution to the lives of young people and also to the local community including the active and ongoing support that local Scouts are giving by providing countless hours of service as volunteers at local vaccination centres and assistance in the community during the pandemic.

After the meeting, David said, “Local Scouts groups make a real difference in the lives of young people in normal times and now they have an even bigger role to play in helping them come through the impacts of the pandemic. I hope that more local residents who may have been involved with the Scouts in the past or are new to the movement will take time to find out more about #Goodforyou and get involved – it will help enhance the lives of many young people locally.”
