Rainow artist paints the Queen’s spaniels

Local artist, Nina Kurzweil, has been commissioned to draw the Queen’s Cocker Spaniels.

The commission came as a thank you for hosting the 2022 Cocker Championships which took place at Windsor Great Park in January.

Nina has been a full time pet portrait artist since 2019, but has had a passion for drawing animals since childhood.

After stepping away from her colouring pencils while studying for her Fine Art Degree, she returned to her pencils after after moving to Rainow with her partner Lee.

Most of Nina’s business is through commissions and she was honoured to be asked to draw the  Queen’s Cocker Spaniels as a thank you gift from the Kennel Club.

The drawing was presented to Prince Edward who accepted the image on behalf of his mother.

Nina said: “We weren’t sure who would be there for the presentation, I knew on previous occasions the Queen would have been there but that as she hasn’t been well recently knew that that would be unlikely.

“When my portrait was unveiled I cried a little bit and so did some of the people around me, there was a gasp when it was handed to Prince Edward.

“Prince Edward was thrilled with the portrait and was struck by the details I had captured, he thought the Queen would love her portrait as she loves all her animals.”
