Child attacked by dog but police fail to act

Despite apparently incontrovertible CCTV evidence, showing a dog attacking a child, Macclesfield Police have declined to pursue a case against the owner – for failing to keep her dog under control.

Local resident, David Macdonald, of Crossall Street, Macclesfield told ilovemacc: “My 10-year-old daughter, Keeley, was playing with some friends, outside our home, when she was approached by a seemingly friendly dog.

“As she went to stroke the dog – which wasn’t on a lead – it attacked her.

“Then, as she tried to escape, the dog continued its attack, eventually overpowering her and dragging her down onto the road.”

Finally Keeley managed to escape and the, by now hysterical, child ran to her home, where she was comforted by her parents.

Having spoken to several witnesses and viewed CCTV footage, Mr Macdonald went to Macclesfield Police Station to make a formal complaint – but having failed to speak to the dog’s owner, the police appear to have closed the case.

Mr Macdonal told ilovemacc: “I’m disgusted with Cheshire police’s handling of this.

“The owner, who was with the dog, should have had it on a lead.

“Thankfully, my daughter didn’t sustain major injuries, but she’s been mentally scarred and is now terrified of leaving our home alone.

“We gave the police all the evidence, including the address of the owner, but we’ve been told the dog’s owner refused to answer the door – so the police just dropped the case.”

Mr Macdonald added, he was so shocked by Macclesfield Police’s appalling response, he took to social media to express his anger asking “the useless police to consider how their inaction has affected my little girl.”
