Sole mistake by burglars leads to their arrest

Two people have been arrested after officers recovered a shoe following a burglary in Macclesfield.

At around 2.35 am today (Thursday 6 June) police were called to reports of a burglary at a Tesco petrol station on Hibel Road, Macclesfield.

Officers attended and discovered a single shoe left at the scene.

With assistance from the police dog, the suspects were traced by the scent of the abandoned shoe.

Oliver Postlewhite, 43, of Kennedy Avenue, Macclesfield and 45-year-old Stacey Williams, of no fixed abode, were subsequently arrested on suspicion of attempted burglary criminal damage.

The pair have been remanded in custody to appear at Chester Magistrates’ Court today, Friday 7 June.

Inspector Richard Haque said: “Burglaries of all nature are not acceptable, and we are committed to doing all we can to ensure those responsible are held accountable for their actions.

“On this occasion, as a result of the swift attendance at the scene, and a co-ordinated search of the area with assistance from the police dog, two people have been arrested and are currently assisting with our enquires.

“I would like to thank all the officers involved in the response, and I hope that these arrests provide reassurance to local residents and businesses.

“Unfortunately, in this fairy tale, these two didn’t get to go to the ball last night, and instead spent their evening in our cells.”
