Cheshire police self-defence classes prove popular

Free self-defence classes proved to be a massive hit with local people recently.

Over 3000 expressed interest in attending the classes and all available spaces were filled within six hours.

The classes, organised and supported by one of Cheshire Constabulary’s Crime Prevention officers, were held at Macclesfield Leisure Centre, Congleton Leisure Centre and Cheshire Without Abuse in Crewe.

Crime prevention officer, Victoria, worked in Partnership with Her-Place and CWA (Cheshire Without Abuse) to provide self-defence sessions which would be specifically available to known vulnerable individuals, with additional sessions available for members of the public who did not necessarily have to have been a victim of crime, but who may have a fear of crime or wanted advice.

Sessions were run by Self-defence with Claire. Claire has previously worked on initiatives with Cheshire Constabulary and provided attendees with knowledge and confidence whilst learning numerous self-defence techniques. Victoria was also on hand at every session to provide personal safety advice and information about the Hollieguard app, along with providing each attendee with a personal alarm.

The sessions were supported by Everybody Leisure who allowed use of the venues free of charge in support of the initiative.
