Housebuilder Bellway has received an award from Macclesfield Civic Society for its Kings Quarter development.

Founded in 1962, Macclesfield Civic Society is a voluntary organisation that monitors development in the town, keeping an eye on planning applications and raising concerns when proposed developments conflict with the local plan, green belt, traffic management system and ecological and conservation issues.

Working for a ‘town to be proud of’, the Civic Society encourages good design and developments that complement and enhance the local infrastructure, working well for the benefit of the community as a whole.

With the backing of Macclesfield Town Council, the Civic Society runs an annual award scheme that supports the objectives of its work and highlights the best developments completed locally within the previous 12 month period.

In recognition of its impressive development on a significant central site, Macclesfield Civic Society awarded one of its prestigious awards to Bellway for its Kings Quarter development on the former site of The King’s School.

Secretary of Macclesfield Civic Society, Richard Watson, said: “By virtue of size and central location, the redevelopment of the Kings School site is one of the most significant changes to the character of Macclesfield in the last 30 years and there was a strong desire to see a sympathetic and respectful development take place.

“The Bellway development is impressive and has been incredibly well done, complementing the existing vernacular of the area perfectly. The scale and density of the houses fronting the development are well chosen, complementing the apartment block at the town centre end of the site and also the rather imposing existing houses on the other side of Westminster Road.”

Sales director at Bellway Grace Yarlett added: “We are delighted to receive this award from Macclesfield Civic Society. At Bellway, we are committed to good design and quality construction and aim to deliver sustainable developments that respect the local aesthetics and contribute positively to the locations in which we build.”
