With the loss of Robbie Savage almost certain the club has approached Wayne Rooney.
But former Birmingham City boss Wayne Rooney has declined the offer to manage Macclesfield.
The former Manchester United and England player was approached by Macclesfield as Robbie Savage is reportedly set to take over at Forest Green.
It’s reported that Macclesfield reached out to Rooney’s agent Paul Stretford this week, but after careful thought, the 39 year old decided not to pursue the opportunity.
Rooney, who is United’s all-time leading scorer, has previously managed Derby, DC United and Blues following his retirement from playing, and was in charge of Plymouth for the first half of last season.
Rooney appears to be concentrating on media opportunities for the time being and didn’t see Macclesfield as the right fit, despite appreciating the work being done at the club.
