Emily is Mobberley’s Rose Queen

. . . and it runs in the family

Emily Sellars-Rooney was crowned Mobberley Rose Queen 2025 on Saturday.

Her ‘coronation’ follows in the footsteps of her mum, Karinna, who was Gawsworth’s Rose Queen back in 1991 and her grandmother, Joy Parkes, also a Mobberley Rose Queen in her youth.

Emily’s mum, Karinna, was Gawsworth’s Rose Queen in 1991.

Emily is in year 6 at Mobberley CE Primary School.

She was a Rose Queen bridesmaid in 2019 and the youngest member of the morris dancing troupe.

Emily was joined by ladies in waiting and close friends Hettie Taylor and Poppy Norbury.

Mobberley Rose Queen Festival takes place every June, with a procession of floats through the village, a crowning ceremony and dance displays from local children.

The Mobberley Rose Queen Festival was established in 1922, when young village resident Lily Green founded the very first festival.

At the time, a telegraph girl at Mobberley Post Office, Lily met a group of disappointed and distraught young girls, crying because they were unable to attend the Knutsford May Day celebrations.

She decided Mobberley would have its own celebration – and the annual Mobberley Rose Queen Festival was born.
