Taking the Purple in Poynton

Original Purple Gang members Chris Joe Beard and Gerry Robinson will be reading from Joe`s biography of their band – “Taking The Purple – the extraordinary story of the Purple Gang – Granny Takes A Trip and all that” at Poynton Library later this month.

The book records life in the hapless band who found themselves on the cusp of the London big time until a 1967 ban by the BBC of their record “Granny Takes a Trip.”

A very funny and interesting book for anyone remotely interested in the Summer of Love and the early days of British pop.

The evening, Tuesday 21st October, will consist of book readings, a discussion – with questions from the floor and twelve musical items and songs.
