Criminal Behaviour Order for Macclesfield man following racial harassment

Sean David Andrew Roberts of Boden Street in Macclesfield, has been given a Criminal Behaviour Order following his conviction on 15 January for racial harassment.

The order, lasting five years, was given at South and East Cheshire Magistrates Court and prevents Roberts from using or encouraging others to use foul, abusive, insulting, offensive, threatening, disorderly or intimidating language or behaviour in a public place.  He is excluded from entering Macclesfield Town Centre without prior permission of the police and must not have an open container of alcohol in public other than in licensed premises.  Roberts is also required to engage with alcohol services and attend appointments as seen fit.

Sergeant Stephen Davenport of the Macclesfied Neighbourhood Policing Team said; “This is a great result for our town centre and everyone who uses it. Roberts has caused problems for a long time now and knowing that he faces going to prison if he breaks the conditions of the Order will be a massive deterrent.”

Councillor Les Gilbert, Cheshire East Council Cabinet member for localism and enforcement, said: “I am very pleased that this legal action has been taken. This man has had a very disruptive and negative impact on the quality of life for people visiting and working in the Macclesfield town centre area.

“This order and its prohibitions will not only give respite to those members of the community affected by his actions but also protect others should he display this sort of unacceptable behaviour anywhere else.

“I would like to congratulate the Council’s anti-social behaviour team for working so effectively with the police on this matter.”
