MP presses for action for Eaton

Macclesfield MP David Rutley, joined Cheshire East Councillor Lesley Smetham and members of Eaton Parish Council at a meeting to discuss the potential impact on the village of the planned Congleton Relief Road and extensive housing development in Congleton.

Now that the route of relief road has been finalised, the Parish Council is pressing to ensure that plans are actively developed to mitigate the impact of increased traffic volumes that will result from the new relief road.  The Parish Councillors are urging Cheshire East Council to put in place proper and fully funded plans to limit the impact of higher traffic volumes on the village.

Local residents also want to preserve Eaton’s unique identity, as the relief road moves forward and planned major housing development in Congleton is progressed. The Parish Council is calling for a “Green Gap” to be established south of the village to help protect the community. David has already contacted Cheshire East Council on this important priority, and will continue to urge the Council to formally establish the “Green Gap” in its future plans.

The meeting also discussed a number of measures to help tackle speeding through the village, and Cllr Smetham agreed to address this issue and determine if a Speed Indication Display could be put in place.

Following the meeting, David said, “It remains clear that local residents are keen to ensure that the impact of the Congleton Relief Road on Eaton should be mitigated by clearly set out plans. I will continue to campaign to ensure that the identities of local communities, such as Eaton, are retained, and I shall be making Cheshire East Council aware of these continuing concerns.”
