Cheshire Police stay connected with rural communities

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer officially opened the new Police Contact Point at Disley Parish Community Centre this week and explained to councillors the innovative ways the Constabulary is enabling community policing.

As well as the installation of a new Police Contact Point at Disley Parish Community Centre a Police Community Base has been set up in the building to provide local officers a place to work from so they can stay in their community.

Cheshire Police and Crime Commissioner John Dwyer said: “Keeping connected with our rural communities is crucial. I am investing in contact points and police community bases to support the Constabulary in delivering on the Chief Constable’s ‘We’re Here’ commitment to the people of Cheshire. I want to ensure that the Constabulary is accessible to the public in as many different ways as possible. Local community policing remains one of my priorities and I am committed to maintaining a high level of service through innovative and modern means.

“In addition to the new contact point, the community base provides a place for the local officers or PCSOs to work, with all the information they need at their fingertips so they can spend even more time on the beat. This is a real boon for local residents who now have another means to get into contact with the Constabulary to raise any policing concerns they may have.

“The plan is to continue to introduce both contact points and community bases across the county to ensure our communities stay connected and safe.”

Assistant Chief Constable Mark Roberts said: “The rollout of contact points across the county along with community bases, enables our communities to access services easily and conveniently at police stations and other community locations such as the community centre in Disley.

“The contact points offer a 24 hour service, 7 days a week and provide a range of features including a direct telephone line, web chat and the ability for the call takers to video link to the person using the contact point.

“This service is now complemented by being able to embed officers within communities ensuring community policing stays at the heart of Cheshire Constabulary.”
