Make it Mayhem at the Museums

Be part of our Make it Mayhem creative takeover at West Park Museum and discover your inner Tech Creative at The Silk Museum.

Throughout the summer holidays, families have been creating fabulous installations at West Park Museum as part of drop-in “Make it Mayhem” craft sessions.

The entrance hall has been filled with vines, flowers and woodland creatures made of a variety of materials to create a vibrant welcome to the building, which houses a wealth of exotic treasures.  West Park Museum’s famous Macc Panda now has a new papier mache friend to keep him company, and visitors have also constructed a bamboo forest for them to feast on.  Forthcoming creations include a miniature farm to reflect local artist Charles Tunnicliffe’s depictions of rural life on display.

As well as creating items to feature in the museum makeover, visitors make something to take home too.  Join in with Make it Mayhem every afternoon at West Park Museum, Tuesday-Sunday, 1.30pm-3.30pm until Sunday 2 September.

Over at The Silk Museum, younger visitors can become Tech Creatives at STEM-inspired drop-in craft workshops on Thursday 23 and Thursday 30 August. There are two sessions each week, 10.30am-12.30pm and 1.30pm-3.30pm.  Combine art and science to make artworks that light up using circuits and special electrical dough! The programme of Tech Creatives activities is part of the Esmée Fairbairn Collections Fund Silk and the Jacquard Legacyproject, allowing families to engage with Macclesfield Museums’ unique collections and use unusual creative materials and technology; previous sessions have included creating stop-motion animations and moving robots.

Drop-in Make it Mayhem and Tech Creatives sessions are just £3 each, and there is no need to book. West Park Museum is free to visit, and there is no charge for children to visit The Silk Museum and Paradise Mill, so families can make the most of the last weeks of the summer holidays and have great days out at Macclesfield Museums without breaking the bank.
