BODEN GOAL OVERTURNED BY SECOND HALF OLDHAM FOUR GOAL SALVO

The Silkmen were beaten 4-1by a very competitive Oldham Athletic side at Boundary Park, after taking the lead through Scott Boden in the first half.

Rhys Taylor was the first `keeper tested as Johnson Clarke Harris hit a low drive which the Silkmen stopper gathered comfortably.

Macc`s attacking threat was shown first when Jack Mackreth was inches away from connecting with a through-ball that would have seen him one-on-one before Scott Boden was narrowly offside. At the other end it took a great tackle from Efe Sodje to prevent a dangerous opening for the home side.

Boden went close with a sharp strike from a narrow angle which forced a good save, and the same player then saw a shot deflected, and looping up in the area, which Steve Williams, up for a free kick, met with his head but nodded it over the bar.

And after thrteatening on a couple of occasions, Scott Boden opened the scoring after good work from Rowe found him in front of goal and his powerful strike, which took a nick from a defender, flew into the top corner.

Macc even had other chances to extend their lead in a first half where they were mostly the better of their higher league opposition. First a Macc corner was headed back across the box by Sodje, and met by Joe Connor who headed over before Rowe maxiised on a mistake to get a free ball near the corner flag, and cut in to whip a low cross towards Boden that was just cut out by a lunging block.

There were no Silkmen changes at half time, but it was only a few minutes into the second 45 when Oldham levelled. A miscommunication at the back was the defence ushering the ball back to Taylor, only for Korey Smith to break through and be brought down by the Macc `keeper. Adam Rooney stepped up and rifled the ball into the bottom left corner.

It was 2-1 soon after as Christian Montano finished a good passing move with a powerful drive that Taylor got a hand to, but couldn`t stop from sneaking into the bottom right.

Macc could have equalised when Arthur Gnahouoa made a great solo run and layed off to Boden near the penalty spot. Recieving the ball back he fired a curling shot to the far post which Mark Oxley in the home goal did well to keep out.

Efe Sodje and trialist Charlie Barnett were replaced by Michael Thomas and Scott Kay before the home side made it 3-1. Another defensive mix up saw Montano with a free run on goal, and he slotted it under the advancing Taylor to score.

Another chance for the home side saw Adam Rooney slotting the ball past Taylor only for Williams to pop up on the line to clear.

Enes Fermino replaced Alex Harvey and Mackreth took a hard hit and was replaced by Chalmers before the home side made it four in injury time. A debatable free kick was taken by Jose Baxter, and with luck on his side he saw it cannon off the bar and into the goal off the back of the diving Taylor to give a good, competitive game a slanted scoreline.
