BRITANNIA BUILDING SOCIETY ROBBERY – MAN CHARGED

A 49-year-old man has been charged with a robbery that occurred at the Britannia Building Society in Macclesfield on 29 August 2013.

Martin Dawson was arrested at around 5pm on Tuesday night (15 October) in Bentilee, Stoke-on-Trent.

Mr Dawson (of no fixed abode) has remained in custody since his arrest. He was interviewed by Cheshire Police detectives and last night was charged with the robbery in Macclesfield and possession of a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He was also charged with other offences investigated by West Mercia Police which were a separate robbery in Newport in June 2013, possessing a firearm with intent to commit an indictable offence, and one count of escaping lawful custody.

Mr Dawson was due to appear at Telford Magistrates Court today (18 October 2013).

Cheshire Police Eastern Area Detective Inspector Bob Hassall said: “Officers from Cheshire travelled to Telford as part of the investigation into the robbery in Macclesfield which resulted in charges being brought.”

“We are continuing to work closely with our colleagues in West Mercia.”
