1100 MORE HOMES APPROVED FOR CHESHIRE EAST

Cheshire East Council is set to approve plans from housebuilders for nearly 1,100 homes on around 100 acres of agricultural land.

Seven schemes will be considered at a planning committee on November 6 with applications coming from Taylor Wimpey, Bloor Homes, Persimmon, PE Jones, Wainhomes, Elan Homes and Bellway.

They are all on farm land, apart from Bellway`s scheme in Bollington.

Last week two schemes for 440 houses were permitted on appeal and the authority was criticised by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles over its five-year supply of housing.

Taylor Wimpey has applied for consent for 275 homes on land off Crewe Road at Shavington, while Bloor Homes wants to build 400 houses off Parkers Road in Leighton north of Crewe.

Persimmon is applying for 80 houses off Middlewich Road in Holmes Chapel, and PE Jones wants to build 175 houses south of Coppice Way, Handforth.

Wainhomes wants to build 21 houses off Cheerbrook Raod, at Willaston, Nantwich and Elan Homes is applying for 44 homes off Vicarage Road at Haslington. This is a reserved matters application with the scheme having been approved in June. Bellway has applied to build 91 houses at Wellington Road, Bollington at the former Kay Metzeler polystyrene manufacturing plant.

Responding to Mr Pickles comments on housing supply, leader of Cheshire East Council Michael Jones said: “We are continuing to look at as many sites as possible in order to create the buffer in our housing numbers as recommended by the Secretary of State. We have already achieved a significant contribution towards our five-year housing supply and will continue to work tirelessly until we meet the target set by the Secretary of State or in the event there are further policy changes.
