Business warned to look out for fake £20 notes

Following the arrest of two males last week for passing fake £20 notes at various locations in Wilmslow, Cheshire Police are warning businesses to be vigilant after further incidents have occurred in the area.

Two females entered retail premises in Knutsford and Holmes Chapel on Wednesday, 6th August, where they used forged £20  notes to purchase low value goods in order to obtain genuine currency as change.

Two females were arrested and have been bailed pending further enquiries into the source of notes before a charging decision is made.

PC Ryan Ogden said “I am keen to for local retail stores to remain vigilant regarding these forged notes and to familiarise themselves with published Bank of England guidance.

“I am also keen for any other stores to come forward if they believe these females could also have been in their store and passed fake £20 notes.”

The first female is described as being of a mixed race appearance, in her early 20s, short and of a petite build. She had a large afro hair style and was wearing a red top and black leggings.

The second female was white, in her early 20s, short and of a petite build. She had blond hair which was tied back and was wearing a white top and black leggings.

Anyone with any information about these incident is requested to contact Cheshire Police on 101, quoting incident number 655 of 06/08/2014, or alternatively Crimestoppers can be contacted anonymously on 0800 555 111.
