Macclesfield man pleads guilty to double burglary

A Macclesfield man has been sentenced after pleading guilty to burglaries at two commercial premises.

On 9 January 2015 Jonathan Stephenson, 36, from 72 Kendal Road, Macclesfield appeared at Crewe Magistrates and pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison suspended for 12 months. He has also been given a curfew for 10 weeks.

During the early hours of Thursday 8th January 2015, two commercial premises were broken into in Macclesfield town centre.

During both burglaries, the offender forced his way in. He stole five handbags from Mimi′s in chestergate and DVDs from the Book Exchange at the indoor market.

Enquiries led to an address in Macclesfield, where the offender was identified and a number of the stolen items were recovered.

Other locations were identified within the town where further stolen items were recovered. Stephenson was subsequently arrested and charged with two offences of burglary.

Sgt Steve Smith from Macclesfield Neighbourhood Policing Unit said: “We understand the effect commercial burglaries have on local businesses and will continue to work with the business community to catch those responsible and to prevent crime.”
