‘Inspired by Macclesfield’ and ‘Home Ground’

This year the Macclesfield Silk Museum plays host to international media and textile artist Andrea Zapp.
Born in Germany and now based in Manchester, Andrea has shown her installations worldwide and in June she will be bringing her latest project to Macclesfield.
The exhibition exclusively previews new and striking pieces from Andrea’s recently launched fashion label AZ.andreazapp.
Her photography forms the base for unique signature looks and accessories and AZ. has already achieved a cult following in its first year.
The launch collection featured imagery from her global travels juxtaposing structural forms and shapes against the delicate silk of the dresses and her new ‘ Inspired by Macclesfield’ range will be equally eye-catching.
The distinct new dress design highlights in its prints and textures the rich heritage and settings of Paradise Mill.
It is accompanied by a selection of scarves and ties which further interpret the subtle site-specific details of the Silk Museum collection.

Running alongside the Andrea Zapp exhibition is the Macclesfield, ‘Home Ground’ exhibition – a national project with the Devon Guild of Craftsmen, Macclesfield Town Community Sports Trust and the Silk Heritage Trust.
This exhibition celebrates the cultural heritage of six National League Football Clubs all whose nicknames come from the local craft industry that has shaped the community.
It will showcase the work of contemporary craft practitioners who use locally distinct and sourced materials to produce work that reflects the local heritage and culture.
The Macclesfield project will be led by artist Zoe Hillyard who specialises in ceramic patchwork – exploring the tradition of hand stitched patchwork.
Zoe uses pieces of discarded and broken ceramics to create a patchwork of pieces – individual fragments are covered with printed textiles and reassembled by stitch.

Inspired by Macclesfield and Home Ground run from Friday 19th June until Saturday 5th September 2015.
