A ‘Folksy’ Hamlet at the Hall

‘Hamlet’ with lots of contrast is coming to Little Moreton Hall on Wednesday 5 August.

Lee Hardwicke, an artistic director with the touring company, ‘Folksy Theatre’ says:

‘Most people think of Hamlet as being a relentlessly dark play. In fact, a lot of lighter moments are lurking among the tragedy.                                                                                                                      In the early stages Ophelia is very much in touch with the world of nature. Later, gravediggers and gardeners even add a touch of comedy.                                                                                               We give full weight to this side of the story and enhance it with live folk music. Highlighting the brighter moments makes the tragic core of the tale even more poignant. We believe this production makes Hamlet really accessible for everyone.’

Rebecca Alexander, from Little Moreton Hall said: ‘Parts of this hall had been standing for nearly a hundred years when Shakespeare wrote Hamlet. Other parts had just been built. So, the building forms an ideal backdrop for his work.                                                                                                                                          This production will be on the lawn in front of the hall. Playgoers are invited to bring folding chairs or blankets and a picnic to enjoy this summer production of one of the world’s most famous plays.’

Hamlet is at Little Moreton Hall on Wednesday August 5th.

Gates open at 6pm. Performance begins at 7pm. End time 9.30pm
