Unique line up for Sutton gig

Local concert promoter and record company boss Chris Hewitt has put together a unique line up for a gig at Sutton Scout hut on Saturday 3rd October

String Driven Thing – are a folk rock group from Glasgow who achieved notoriety in the early 1970s.

They had two highly-acclaimed albums on Charisma Records in the early 70’s. Notoriety came from losing their place on a Charisma Records tour – for going down better than main act Genesis. The support band getting four encores can’t have been easy for Genesis. One of their singles “It’s a Game” was later a Bay City Rollers hit.

String Driven Thing are fronted by original members – guitarist and songwriter Chris Adams, classical violinist Grahame Smith (at one time also a member of Van Der Graaf Generator and Hamill) plus newer members Dick Drake on drums and Andy Allan on bass. Guitarist Robin Adams (son of founder Chris Adams) often joins the band for gigs. This is the band’s second visit to Sutton – not to be missed.

Pie are riding on the crust of a wave of unusual Lancashire rock music. Boo Long uses crap guitars and sings. Brian Eastwood uses really nice guitars and violins and doesn’t sing. Lindsay Riley hits things and doesn’t sing.

Victor Brox

Joining Pie for a few numbers during their set is legendary bluesman Victor Brox who first had album success with Aynsley Dunbar’s Retaliation in the 1960s. Possessing an amazing blues voice, Victor also plays keyboards, guitar and trumpet..

George Borowski and Gaynor Wilson

Local legend ‘Guitar George’ Borowski needs no introduction – he’ll be joined by the fantastic vocalist Gaynor Wilson.

Finally, Eldana three young girls of Russian parentage, will perform a couple of songs and demonstrate their unique harmony talent.

Tickets available direct from Chris Hewitt on 01565 734066 or  07970 21970
