Huge crowd at Moss Rose for charity match

A crowd of 2,500 ensured a tremendous atmosphere at the Bosley Disaster Charity Match, at the Moss Rose, yesterday.

The charity football match, which raised £35,000, was organised by Darren Broomhead and friends to raise funds for all those affected by the Bosley Wood Treatment disaster.

Ex pro-footballers, including former England winger Trevor Sinclair and ex-Blues Paul Dickov and Shaun Goater, joined the line-up at Macclesfield Town. Also taking part in the match were Ian and David Brightwell – and ex-Coronation Street actor Scott Wright.

After the match, Trevor Sinclair, who scored during the game, Tweeted: “Incredible turn out @thesilkmen for the Bosley Mill Charity match. Days like today shows what football can do for communities.”

Three people were killed in the incident in July, when two huge explosions rocked Wood Treatment Ltd. The bodies of workers Will Barks, Derek Moore and Dorothy Bailey were later found in the rubble, but Jason Shingler, 38, remains missing.
