Mr Shingler is the only employee who was working on the day of the blast, who has not been found.

Detective Constable Andrew Roberts, of Cheshire Police, told the inquest at Macclesfield Town Hall that the search for Mr Shingler had now ceased.

He said: “Following the catastrophic explosion, Cheshire Police, along with our colleagues with the fire service, were deployed to the mill at Bosley. At that time a considerable amount of employees were on site, including Jason Shingler.”

“Jason was a charge hand. He had legitimate access to all areas of the mill.”

Detective Roberts said the original search and rescue phase of the operation, was transformed into a search and recovery mission – after all hope of finding the four missing employees alive had vanished.

During extensive searches of the burned out mill, emergency crews recovered the bodies of Dorothy Bailey, 62, from Bosley, William Barks, 51, of Dalehouse Road in Cheddleton, and Derek Moore, 62, of Colclough Lane, Goldenhill.
