Local schools set for parliamentary lessons

The work of the Parliamentary Education Service has been backed by the Member of Parliament for Macclesfield, David Rutley, ahead of the North West’s Outreach Officer visiting four schools in the Macclesfield constituency.

David met with Rachael Dodgson, who visits Macclesfield every two years as part of her role, ahead of her whirlwind tour, to support the work being done by her and her colleagues based in Parliament. Rachael will be visiting Dean Valley Primary School, St Gregory’s RC Primary School, High Peak School and Bollinbrook C E Primary School across 3rd and 4th May.

The Parliamentary Education Service seeks to inform, engage and empower young people about the work of Parliament, and explain how people can actively contribute to our democratic processes.

During David’s meeting with Rachael, she explained her role, which is to expand the Outreach Service to students aged 7-18  in schools and centres of learning across the region, with the aim of developing their understanding of Parliament, Democracy and to encourage widening participation and engagement between schools and the Parliament Education Service.

Speaking following the meeting, David said, “It was really good to meet Rachael and get a better understanding of the work which the Education Service does across the country, and not just in Parliament itself. I am sure that the pupils at the schools she is visiting will learn a lot about the work of Parliament, and realise that our democratic freedom is not only to be valued, but also something they can contribute to.”
