MP pushes the boat out

Macclesfield MP, David Rutley, visited Redesmere Sailing Club on Saturday 14th May to see the recently upgraded facilities and to congratulate the Club on its award of ‘Club of the Year 2016’ by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA).

The MP, with his family, were guests at Redesmere’s annual Open Day, when the Club opened its doors to visitors keen to learn more about sailing on the picturesque lake on the Capesthorne Estate.

David and his daughters took advantage of perfect conditions for an escorted sail on the lake in two separate sailing dinghies before taking a tour of the clubhouse and outside areas. The Club has recently undertaken major refurbishments and improvements including a newly located race management cabin, where the MP was interested to learn about some of the technical aspects of dinghy racing from Club members.

The Open Day was part of the Royal Yachting Association’s nationwide ‘Push the Boat Out’ initiative, which encourages people to get out on the water locally and gives them the chance to find out just how easy it is to get involved.

Redesmere Sailing Club’s Commodore, Stuart Campbell said: “The day was a huge success. David and his family had a great time on the water getting the ‘RYA Club of the Year experience’ with us, along with a steady flow of visitors who really enjoyed our friendly and welcoming culture and consistently complimented the quality of sailing and the friendly support provided by our youth and adult sailors.”

David added, “I am most grateful to Redesmere Sailing Club for such a memorable visit. I continue to work hard to promote the benefits of outdoor recreation and it’s great to see the Club thriving with around 300 members and helping more people enjoy sailing. Facilities such as those available at the Club make it easy for more people to get involved, as does their warm welcome and clear expertise. I would like to thank all the volunteers at the Club who make this success possible.”
