Macclesfield’s Hebrew congregation

The recent exhibition, organised by Incubation Arts at Charles Roe House, to celebrate Jewish Life in the Macclesfield area during World War II proved extremely popular, with more than 1,500 visitors from all over the country attending.

Following its success, many elements of the exhibition will be transferred to go on display at Macclesfield Library over the Barnaby period.

The new exhibition – consisting of display panels, period ephemera and memorabilia – will run from Tuesday 14th June to Friday 1st July – during the usual Library opening hours.

Local historian Basil Jeuda will lead a discussion on the firms and personalities that were featured in the Exhibition, such as Halle, Friedland (the image above taken in 1960 shows George Best during a promotion for Frido footballs), Franklin, Friend, and Belmont (Windsmoor).

The discussion will take place at the Library on Tuesday 21st  June from 2pm until 4pm.

Admission free – refreshments will be available.
