An opportunity to run a new café in Castleton

Work to transform Castleton visitor centre into the flagship centre for the Peak District National Park includes plans for a new café.

Tenders are invited now for this catering concession, which includes a cafe and kiosk, to cater for visitors within the centre.

Information and paperwork for tendering can be downloaded from www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/tenders . People have until Friday 10 February to apply.

People interested in tendering for the café and kiosk can make an appointment to attend the visitor centre on Friday 3 February, between 10am and 1pm – contact Sharon Mosley on 01629 816553. Additional appointments are also available next week.

The refurbished visitor centre will become the Peak District National Park’s premier visitor centre with exciting new interpretation displays, a dedicated space for Castleton Historical Society’s museum, improved retail area, an area for activities, as well as the new café.

Castleton visitor centre attracts over 160,000 people every year so the refurbishment is being designed to improve the visitor experience, particularly for people living with disability, young people, families and local school, youth and community groups.

Building contractors Space Design are on site now creating the new spaces for the different aspects of the project as well as installing the new café.

Behind the scenes, national park staff are working with interpretation specialists Wide Sky and Querceus Design to develop creative interpretative displays and content in association with Castleton Historical Society for the museum.

The visitor centre is expected to re-open in late May.

National park information and visitor services continue to be available at Edale, Upper Derwent and Bakewell, and online at www.peakdistrict.gov.uk.
