Silkmen avoid winding-up order

Macclesfield Town reassured supporters following the club’s appearance in the High Court this week in response to a winding-up petition.

The club said: “Macclesfield Town would like to reassure fans in light of recent media reports centring on a High Court winding up order. The petition was lodged by HMRC some weeks ago and the issue was subsequently resolved in full.

“As a result of this petition being lodged, a third party creditor added their name to this prior to the initial case being rectified. This amount was previously in query and as such, it is disappointing that this action was taken.”

“However an agreement has now been reached and the matter will be formally resolved as a matter of priority. We will be making no further comment at this stage.”

The club has experienced issues regarding the late payment of wages to some players in recent months.

Some team members failed to receive their January wages on time ahead of a Cheshire derby against Crewe Alex.

The issue repeated itself the following month, with reports claiming that several players were paid either part or none of their due wages for February.

Sol Campbell’s team are currently 23rd in League Two as they try and fight off relegation back to the National League.

They sit three points from safety but with a game in hand on Yeovil Town in 22nd, and take on Stevenage at the Moss Rose this Saturday.
