Egg-chanting Easter fun at Tatton

With the sun shining down on us Easter Saturday morning, we packed our picnic, sunhats and the kids and headed to one of our favourite National Trust properties – Tatton Park – to enjoy some Egg-chanting Easter fun.

Starting our day in the courtyard – there was plenty to see and do . . . including a magic show, market stalls, glitter body art and the puppet show, which had our youngest children (aged five and three) in hysterics.

The search for the ‘fairy doors’

Into the gardens, the children armed with pencils and activity sheets, intent on searching for the ‘fairy doors’ that would lead them to their first chocolate booty reward of the day.

In between searching for fairy doors, there was egg and spoon racing in the orchard and egg rolling on the main lawn, as well as admiring the spectacular blossoms and exploring the Victorian greenhouse and enjoying our picnic in the beautiful gardens.

Next to the Mansion house – in search of unicorns and a number of little scene clues depicting fairy tales. Our eldest son (aged ten), was fascinated by the house and our daughter absolutely loved the fairy tale activity. She was left speechless by a meeting with ‘The Beast’ from Beauty and the Beast and being presented with her next chocolate treat by none other than a fairy godmother was the icing on the cake.

After another quick stop in the courtyard, with a refuel of coffee for the grown ups and a much-loved ride on the stunning Victorian carousel for the kids, then off to our daughters favourite place in the whole wide world – Tatton Farm.

New born lambs on the farm . . .
. . . and of course piglets.

On the farm we had to hunt down the gingerbread men and collect letters to solve a puzzle, whilst also visiting the animals and rare breeds. We discovered plenty of new arrivals  – lambs, chicks and piglets – as well as our firm favourites – Amber the goat, the friendly chickens and of course Tabitha the Shire horse and her daughter Summer Sensation (who were presented with a hand drawn card from my daughter, by their lovely keeper).

The end of the gingerbread man trail took us up to the adventure playground in the woods (another favourite with all the kids), which at this time of year is in full bloom with bluebells.

Heading back to the car, there was one more quick stop off at the fun fair, for a final ride on the cars and miniature carousel, before heading back home – for a much needed rest!

The kids (and grown ups) all had a fantastic family day out – as we always do at Tatton Park.

If you’re looking for something to do on Easter Sunday or Monday, don’t miss the opportunity to have an Egg-Chanting family day out at Tatton!
