RHS Tatton 2019 opening day

The opening day of the RHS at Tatton proved to be a corker with thousands of gardening enthusiasts visiting from across the country to see the latest developments in horticulture and gardens.

Visitors were rewarded with glorious weather for most of the day – until late afternoon – but there was no mood to let the change of weather spoil everyone’s enjoyment.

The show also featured the opening of the Sunshine Garden – designed and constructed in memory of TV weather presenter, Dianne Oxberry who up until her untimely death in January had helped present RHS Tatton for NW television viewers.

BBC NW presenter Roger Johnson – assisted by students and staff from Bollinbrook School performed the opening ceremony of the Dianne Oxberry Sunshine Garden.

Bollinbrook Church of England Primary School students sang a song with lyrics they had especially written for the event.

Once the show ends the garden will be dismantled and re-erected at Wirral St John’s Hospice.

The show runs until this Sunday 21st July and tickets can still be purchased online from the RHS website.

Rather than attempt to describe what’s on show – we’ll let the pictures do the talking for us.

Don’t forget to check out tomorrow’s images – which will show some of the more quirkier items on offer at the RHS Tatton 2019.

Air plants (Tillandsia spp.) are from Mexico and South America. They are so-named because they use their short, wiry roots to attach themselves to branches, cliff-faces, even electricity and telephone lines, rather than rooting in soil.
