Macclesfield will be once again celebrating its silk links with China and the start of the Year of the Rat with a free Chinese New Year celebration event organised by Macclesfield Town Council.
Tytherington School Mandarin Choir will be kick starting the celebrations on Saturday 25th January at 11:30 am with a performance in Market Place.
Following this a Chinese dragon, followed by the wonderful Rat – created by Macclesfield Community Artspace along with Silky the Pig – will depart Market Place and parade to the United Reformed Church at Park Green
There’ll be photo opportunities aplenty and an opportunity to taste authentic Chinese food, view shadow puppets (created at local schools and care homes) and a host of Chinese craft activities, calligraphy, tea tasting and music.
Helena Gowler, Community Engagement Officer for Macclesfield Town Council commented that “When we first held the event to celebrate the Year of the Pig in 2019, we were overwhelmed with just how many people came out to celebrate. We are delighted to present this event again to celebrate the Year of the Rat. Visitors to the United Reformed Church will journey through the building to experience different aspects of Chinese celebrations.”
