Cheshire Three Peaks Challenge in aid of Francis House Children’s Hospice

Francis House Children’s Hospice is inviting people to tackle three of the highest peaks in Macclesfield on a walking challenge this June.

The Cheshire Three Peaks challenge, postponed last year due to the pandemic, returns on June 27 and walkers will be offered the choice of two scenic routes – a strenuous 13.6 miles climb or a family-friendly but none-the-less energetic 6.5 miles ramble.

Experienced in organising treks and challenges, organisers at the Hospice have mapped out the routes which start and end at Tegg’s Nose Country Park.  Rest-stop checkpoints will provide welcome drinks and refreshments along the fully-flagged route.

Rachel Astill, Francis House fundraising officer said: “Both walks promise to be very enjoyable with spectacular views winding through the beautiful Macclesfield landscape. The challenge is a brilliant opportunity to support Francis House whilst testing your fitness and enjoying the great outdoors.

“This is a challenge with rocky terrain and several steep steps, although the shorter route doesn’t cover the three peaks themselves it does include extended periods of steeply inclined paths. That said children, families and their four-legged friends take part every year and always return with beaming smiles at the finish.”

The 13.6 mile route takes in Tegg’s Nose, Shutlingsloe and Shining Tor, offers stunning views from all three summits as it winds through the picturesque Cheshire countryside, encompassing Trentabank and Lamaload Reservoirs. The recently re-opened Cat and Fiddle provides the backdrop to checkpoint 2 and the remaining six miles hike to the finish.

Registration for the event is £20 for the longer route which also includes a packed lunch freshly prepared by Tegg’s Nose Tea Rooms and £15 for the shorter route.  Both routes are free to under 16s accompanied by an adult and all participants receive detailed route guides and a Francis House T-shirt.

Rachel added: “We can’t wait to see our supporters enjoying the beautiful Cheshire countryside, walking through woodland and moorland whilst raising funds to help hundreds of families make precious memories with their children.”
